If you make a dry piece of wood wet, it darkens up and brings out the patina. The older wood gets, the more patina there is, therefore the darker it is when made wet. A clearcoat finish has the same effect. Some people really like the light colour of unfinished; but want the benefit of our clearcoat epoxy + polyurethane finish which fills in all the distressing we maintained.
