One way you can extend the size of an island top is to extend beyond the end of the cabinetry and add a centre post. We did for this Wiarton customer; expanding the usefulness of their island. See pics below!

The way we get the unique look of our tables is keeping nearly all the original distressing from historic Ontario barns. The older distressing in a board gets, the darker it gets.
