Our barnboard grey option brings the colour of the exterior of old pioneer barns into the floor boards. This is one of the few options where we add the colour in. Old barn floor boards [threshing floor] aren’t as exposed as the exterior boards so don’t have the same colour. The colour of exterior barn boards is different than the internal floor boards, our barnboard greytone treatment option fixes this. Some of our customers love the colour of barnboard. The barn floor boards we use [threshing floor] is less exposed to the elements so won’t be in this colour. The goal of this treatment option is to match barnboard. Actual exterior barn boards can’t be used as they’re are too structurally deterioted. Check out this pedestal table we made for a West Montrose home with this option. We custom build & finish reclaimed wood furniture from scratch. The benefit of this is we can make modifications in the process. In this case, the customer wanted a lighter version of our barnboard greytone treatment. We were able to accommodate by doing less applications of the barnboard grey coating. Continue reading →

A newer colour/finishing option is our barnboard greytone treatment. We were getting requests for a ‘grey barnboard’ colour more often. The issue – only exterior, heavily distressed boards have this color given their exposure to the sun. Such boards are often too distressed to build solid furniture from.

While not the natural colour, through R&D + trial and error our experienced spray finisher Kim managed to get the colour of exterior boards on the internal boards we use. You’ll still see & feel the original distressing & the tight [old growth] wood grain.
