If you make a dry piece of wood wet, it darkens up and brings out the patina. The older wood gets, the more patina there is, therefore the darker it is when made wet. A clearcoat finish has the same effect. Some people really like the light colour of unfinished; but want the benefit of our clearcoat epoxy + polyurethane finish which fills in all the distressing we maintained. We maintain nearly all the original distressing in the old Ontario barnwood we use as the raw material. This is enhanced with our heavy duty [clearcoat] finish which also makes our tables practical.
