If you’d like to feel the old distressing, our polyurethane finish [no epoxy/clearcoat filling] may be the best option. With the old distressing not being filled; the table top will be more difficult to clean. For a rustic cottage in particular it may fit the decor better. We keep nearly all the original distressing in the old Ontario we use; which means tops are pretty rough at the unfinished stage. Most of our customers opt for our regular clearcoat epoxy; which will still follow the wood. To feel the character more, although less practical; consider our medium thickness epoxy option. Old growth [original Ontario forest] Hemlock is a rare sight. In Pioneer times, it wasn’t. We see it in plentiful amount of it in old barns. Generally not used in furniture [brittle, slivery, tough to work with]; we get away with it with our modern clearcoat finish. Check out this reclaimed wood harvest table project we did!
