One way you can extend the size of an island top is to extend beyond the end of the cabinetry and add a centre post. We did for this Wiarton customer; expanding the usefulness of their island. See pics below!

Our heavy duty clearcoat finish fills in the old distressing in the Ontario barnwood we use. This unique finish makes our tops waterproof, durable and pulls out the authentic patina in the old wood. Some of our customers really want to feel the authentic pioneer distressing in our reclaimed wood table tops. Since epoxy provides a more smooth feel; they’ll typically opt to go with no epoxy filling. While there is a trade-off in terms of practicality [cleaning, durability], this may be worth the cost.
