If you’d like to feel the old distressing, our polyurethane finish [no epoxy/clearcoat filling] may be the best option. With the old distressing not being filled; the table top will be more difficult to clean. For a rustic cottage in particular it may fit the decor better. Old growth [original Ontario forest] Hemlock is a rare sight. In Pioneer times, it wasn’t. We see it in plentiful amount of it in old barns. Generally not used in furniture [brittle, slivery, tough to work with]; we get away with it with our modern clearcoat finish. Check out this reclaimed wood harvest table project we did! Natural reclaimed wood has various tones which will pull in the colours of a space. This log home is Vienna, for example, had a lot of wood. The custom harvest table we made brought those colours in, while still standing out as a centrepiece. See pics! Continue reading
