The colour of our furniture comes from the age of the wood. The older wood gets, the darker it gets. Since the raw material we use is 150+ years old, it comes to us with a lot of darkness/patina already present. The clear epoxy + polyurethane finish pulls out the darkness. We keep nearly all the original distressing in the old Ontario we use; which means tops are pretty rough at the unfinished stage. Old growth [original Ontario forest] Hemlock is a rare sight. In Pioneer times, it wasn’t. We see it in plentiful amount of it in old barns. All our tables can extend up to 18″ at either end [total 3 ft extra]. Given the amount of distressing we maintain, center leaves wouldn’t be practical, so we only extend at the ends.
